
During the workshops for beginners the emphasis lays on developing personal and social skills, such as self-confidence and self-respect, verbal and written expression of the kids´ ideas and opinions. This will help them to participate and socialize with greater ease which gives them better perspectives for the future.

Kids who come to Pasa la Voz often have a low self-esteem and poorly developed communication skills, which can be contributed to the poor (social) circumstances these kids live in as well as the poor quality of the Peruvian education system. In the school system emphasis lies in memorizing and copying within an authoritative method of teaching. Experience taught that developing social skills takes up quite a lot of time, changes have therefore been made. More time is spent for example on writing and comprehensive reading, skills that failed many.

Through dynamic teaching methods the kids are encouraged to express their opinion, work together with other kids and develop their creativity. Also, they are introduced to basic skills within the various curriculum offered, like Journalism & Photography, Graphic Design and Video. Every three months the kids circulate between the different

Much emphasis in the beginners’ workshops lies in learning basic skills which will help them further in the various specializations. During one hour a week all kids use the computer and familiarize themselves with the most important programs that are relevant to their workshop.
